Frequently Asked Questions

EVENT LOCATIONS

THURSDAY NIGHT'S MEET & GREET will be held at the Port of Montreal Tower at the eastern end of the southern pier (see map below).
A stunning 200' modern tower of glass with the most breathtaking views of the Montreal skyline anywhere in the city.
DIRECTIONS: When you get to the pier you will see wooden stairs heading up in the direction of the Tower.  DO NOT TAKE THESE.
Instead walk on the concrete sidewalk to the left of the stairs.  Go all the way back until you come to the lobby labeled Port of Montreal Tower.
FRIDAY'S WEDDING will take place at Le Belvedere de Centre des Sciences, at the eastern end of the central pier.
Hidden at the back end of the Montreal Science Center, The Belvedere is a blank canvas where we've created a truly once in a lifetime event.
DIRECTIONS: Head for the Montreal Science Center.  There is a road that goes right through the middle of it, with sidewalks on either side.  Follow the RIGHT hand sidewalk all the way to back where you'll find a stairway leading up to The Belevedere, you'll find us there.  Please spread the word!

WEATHER

Montreal daytime temps in July are usually between 80-90°F / 27-32°C, and it's likely to be quite humid as well.
Nighttime temps don't usually go much below about 70°F / 21°.  Rain is always possible so plan accordingly.

What events are inside or outside?

THURSDAY: Meet & Greet
This is inside and fully air conditioned.
FRIDAY: Wedding & Reception
The wedding and cocktail hour will be outside in the shade and will probably be warm and breezy.
Around 6:00p we'll be moving into a climate controlled space for dinner, the reception, and celebrating the rest of the night.
SATURDAY: Brunch & Beach Volleyball
The brunch is in an indoor/outdoor space.
Beach volleyball will be a sun lovers paradise, there's not a lot of shade.  Plan accordingly and stay hydrated!

What should I wear or not wear?

I think most people have this pretty in hand at this point, but in case you are still struggling.
THURSDAY:  Cocktail / Dress to Impress
Generally, we are thinking Cocktail attire, but wanted it to be a bit more open, especially for the men.
You don't have to wear a tie, but get dressed up... think fancy club or dinner party.
Please no golf shirts, fitness clothing, etc.   We can't wait to see your impressive outfit!
FRIDAY:  Black Tie Encouraged
We are looking forward to your very best formal look here!  The wedding itself will have lots of deep, rich, and
metallic colors like black, gold, silver, copper.  Please refrain from wearing all white.  Only two people are allowed to do that ;)
SATURDAY:  Casual
Casual wear for the brunch, athletic wear if you're playing volleyball.  If you're coming to the fireworks
in the evening bring an extra layer, it can get very breezy up on top of the bridge where we'll be watching from.
SUNDAY:  Comfortable
If you're joining us for indoor skydiving wear something comfortable and loose, and wear athletic shoes.
It's very warm when you're flying in the tunnel... come hydrated and stay hydrated!

What are the colors and/or theme of the wedding?

The wedding itself will have lots of deep, rich, and metallic colors like black, gold, silver, copper.
Our vibe is certainly pretty clean and modern... big surprise, right?

Are Cameras & Phones Allowed at the Wedding?

We're so glad you asked!  We politely ask all of our guests to refrain from taking pictures or using phones
at any point during the wedding ceremony, or using them anywhere indoors during the reception (outside is OK).
We have one of the world's top wedding photographers and a videographer to document and capture everything for us.
We will also have a fancy, digital photo booth set up at the reception for groups of friends to take selfies in.
If you do need to use a phone or want to take a picture during the reception PLEASE do it outside.
Young people are particularly encouraged to leave their devices back at their hotel.
We are counting on everyone to switch off their technology and engage!

Should We Discuss Politics and Religion at the Wedding?

We're so glad you asked!  We consider ourselves extraordinarily fortunate that we have friends with
such diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and traditions.  Please do not make any assumptions that strangers
you meet will automatically share your views.  Please remember that we love EVERYONE at our wedding.
If you are in any doubt, perhaps consider choosing a different topic.

Will there be a place to leave extra shoes at the wedding?

Yes. there will be a coat closet where you can leave a bag or something like that if you like.

Can I say something at the wedding?

While it is no longer possible to speak at the wedding, we will have a old world telephone
set up to record private voice messages to the bride & groom during the wedding reception.

BIKES | BIXI

If you enjoy biking download the BIXI app when you first arrive in Montreal.
This will give you access to thousands of bikes at docking stations all over the city.
Pick a bike up anywhere you like and drop it off anywhere you like.
Set up an account on the app*, and pay the $22 CAD fee for a one-month membership.
This is less than you'd pay for one hour of bike rental at any of the local shops.
Now you can take out any of the bikes for up to 45min at a time for no additional charge.
Dock it within 45min and you can take it out again after one minute.  No additional charge.
You can do this over and over again, 24hrs a day.  No additional charge.  It's pretty great!
Even better, with one account you can take out two bikes at a time.  No additional charge.

If you need a bike for more than 45min without a re-dock you will pay 17¢/min CAD.  Not bad!
E-bikes are also sometimes available for 17¢/min (without a 45min grace period).
You will use the BIXI app to scan a QR code on the bike which will release it from the dock.
When you return a bike make sure the green light comes on when you dock it or it isn't returned.
The BIXI app has maps to show where the closest bikes are for pickup and empty docks are for return.
If you want to know about fun bike routes to ride on your own reach out to us!
* You need a Canadian address to setup an account.  Use ours!  474 Rue McGill, Montreal, Quebec H2Y 2H2

RESTAURANTS

Montreal is a foodie's paradise.  So many options.  If you plan to eat out on Thursday or Saturday evenings
before coming to our events, and you want to eat somewhere fancy, we'd recommend making as early a reservation
as you can.  Fancier places in the Old Port that we're fond of include:
Jellyfish (steak, seafood, pasta) $$$     eat the Rotelle, it's divine!
Holder (bistro) $$$
Monarque (brasserie) $$$
Le Club Chasse et Pêche (steak & seafood) $$$$
Garde Manger (seafood) $$$$
If you are looking for more inspiration check out this link:

You also may want to download the DINR app.  It can sometimes get you last minute reservations at very tricky locations.
If you are in Montreal for a longer stay and want recommendations outside of the Old Port let us know!

COFFEE

If you're looking to power up in the morning, we have two favorite spots in the Old Port:
1) Cafe Olimpico attached to the Hotel William Gray.  They also have amazing Italian bomboloni (donuts).
The ricotta filled ones are the best.
2) Dispensa.  A tiny little Italian grocery close to our apartment.  They're only open during the week though.
If you want to venture a little farther afield, our favorite coffee in town is about a mile away in the downtown area.
Bar Caffettiera.  It's exceptional and they have very strict (and funny) ideas and rules about how they serve their coffee!
